Peter Erskine Cymbals

We have 35 of Peter's personal cymbals. Truly historic. Some of these were used during his tenure with Stan Kenton, Weather Report, Steps Ahead, and many other great bands. Peter is truly one of the finest players to ever sit behind a set of drums, and he has performed with some of the greatest musicians of all time. Peter and I discussed this idea several months ago when he indicated that he'd love to put some of his cymbals into circulation in the market place for others to enjoy. The fact that many of these cymbals have a historic side to them makes this even more special. And, no cash is going to Peter from the sale of these cymbals. This is a charitable act on his part and all net proceeds will go toward funding scholarships for talented students to attend the highly acclaimed Interlochen Academy for the Arts. The good folks at Zildjian are very enthusiastic about this concept and have generously given their blessing to it as well. We are honored to be participating in such a worthwhile endeavor. A description of each cymbal has been included below. Don't wait!

Peter's website is: www.petererskine.com

Here is the text of the letter Peter has provided:

All cymbals are signed and are from my personal collection. A few of them have never been played, but most of them were used during some exciting moments in my playing career, particularly with the bands Stan Kenton Orchestra, Weather Report, Steps Ahead, John Abercrombie Trio, Bass Desires, Kenny Wheeler, Peter Erskine Trio, John Patitucci recordings, etc.

The cymbals designated as coming from the VAULT are 40s or 50s! era instruments, selected for my use in the late 70s/early 80s with the bands Weather Report and Steps Ahead. These are truly one-of-a-kind cymbals …

Some cymbals (where my name appears in felt-tip pen under the bell) were re-stamped/logo’ed by Zildjian … I had sent those cymbals back to Zildjian a couple of years ago for testing and evaluation, as they represent a unique era (or two!) in cymbal design and manufacturing.

Thanks to Steve Maxwell and to the Zildjian Company for allowing me to make these 35 cymbals available to interested drummers. I am not receiving any monies from the sales of these cymbals … all proceeds after Steve Maxwell’s nominal expenses are covered will be used solely to help enable a deserving young percussionist attend the Interlochen Center for the Arts … we are still in the process of setting up this fund … thanks for your interest

Signed: Peter Erskine
