We're reintroducing our Maxwell Custom Drums line and we're excited about the changes. These great drums are built by hand for us here in the USA. All shells are USA made maple shells (6 ply maple, with 8 ply bass drums) with no reinforcement rings and the bearing edges are custom cut in a vintage 30 degree style to provide the vintage sound so highly sought after in the classic jazz drums of the 50s and 60s. In addition, we have tried to capture a true vintage look for these sets that is combined with modern features for greater flexibility.

We have several standard configurations available but we can quote you a price based on most any configuration you desire, and most drum sizes are available.

The appearance of our sets harkens back to the vintage vibe of Slingerland drums. We use the classic Slingerland-style beavertail lug and the Slingerland-style stick saver replica hoops. Our vintage rail consolette tom holder completes the vintage look. However, we have other tom holder options available as well as suspension mounts for smaller toms. 

Additionally, many different finish options are available with our standard finish being a natural maple with a satin finish, but we have various options as well for wrap finishes and also high gloss.

Cymbal stands, snare stands, hi hat stands and bass drum pedals are available. We highly recommend the DW flat based stands as an ideal option for our kits, or the great lightweight hardware from Canopus. Both are high quality and very portable. Additionally, they are very reminiscent of the hardware design used in the 50s-60s, which provides an excellent visual compliment for these sets.

DRUM SETS:

Newport  Jazz:  8x12, 14x14, 14x18, 5x14 snare drum. This is the classic jazz and bebop configuration.  Options: 14x20 bass drum. 4x14 snare drum. Maxwell rail consolette tom holder or various Gibraltar tom holder options.

Metro Bop: 7x10, 13x13 floor tom, 14x16 bass drum, 5x14 snare drum. This is the ultra-portable version of our bop kit. The 10 and 13 are full and rich sounding and the 14x16 bass drum delivers everything you need in a small, compact package.  Option: 4x14 snare drum. Comes with Gibraltar tom mount with suspension mount for the 10” tom.

Jazz Rock: 9x13, 16x16, 14x22, 6.5x14. This is a great configuration that is equally at home for rock, big band jazz and more.  Options:  14x24 bass drum. 5x14 snare drum. Maxwell rail consolette tom holder or various Gibraltar tom holder options.

Classic Rock: 8x12, 9x13, 16x16, 14x22, 6.5x14. This is the true Classic Rock configuration with two mounted toms, floor tom bass and snare. Classic rock at its best.  Options: 14x24 bass drum. 9x13 and 10x14 toms as an option to the 8x12, 9x13. 6.5x14 snare drum. Gibraltar tom holder options with suspension mounts for the mounted toms.

Fusion Classic:  7x10, 8x12, 14x14 floor tom, 14x20 bass drum, 5x14 snare drum. Here’s a great fusion set in all the right sizes with a nice selection of options to enable you to customize the configuration. Options: 14x18 bass drum. 4x14 or 6.5x14 snare drum. 16x16 floor tom can be added.  12x14 and 14x16 suspended toms can be selected as replacements for the floor tom(s). Gibraltar tom holder options with suspension mounts.

Classic Jazz: 9x13, (two) 16x16 floor toms, 14x22, 5x14. This is the classic configuration used by some of the greatest big band jazz drummers of our time.  Options: 14x24 bass drum. 6.5x14 snare drum. 16x18 floor tom instead of second 16x16. Maxwell rail consolette tom holder or various Gibraltar tom holder options.

Classic Jazz Plus: 9x13, (two) 16x16 floor toms, (two) 14x22 bass drums, 5x14 snare drum. This is the double bass version of our Classic Jazz drum set. Options: 14x24 bass drums. 6.5x14 snare drum. 16x18 floor tom instead of second 16x16. Maxwell rail consolette tom holder or various Gibraltar tom holder options

FINISH OPTIONS:

Satin Oil is standard.

Wrap finishes available for slight upcharge.

Glass glitter wrap finishes available at additional charge.

HEADS: Drums are supplied with Remo coated Ambassador heads with choice of coated resonant heads or clear.
