SOLD. This is a truly remarkable instrument. This is an original Billy Gladstone snare drum. 7x14 black lacquer with chrome hardware. The drum was built by Billy in the early 50s specifically for Wayne Pascuzzi, who was with the Pittsburgh Symphony at the time. The drum had been in Wayne's possession for many years and then was owned by another orchestral percussionist. I have had the pleasure of handling this drum once before. It is a remarkable playing drum and a beautiful instrument. The drum currently has plastic heads and gut snares. When I originally had the drum the batter head was calf, but the most recent owner had a plastic head on the batter side. This drum has been lovingly cared for over the years. Several years ago Arnie Lang, noted Gladstone expert, had the shell carefully re-lacquered to restore it's beauty even further. At one point heavier die cast hoops were added to replace the thinner original hoops and these die cast hoops remain on the drum. The original thinner hoops are no longer with the drum. The drum is a superb and rare example. Billy built only slightly more than 50 drums and many do not exist today, and of those that do exist they rarely come up for sale. This drum is ready for the next 50 years of service and belongs either in a superb collection or in the hands of a skilled player. Hopefully the new owner will be both! Call Steve at 630-865-6849.
