Carl Palmer's Paiste drum set!
SOLD 12-12-15. This is exceedingly rare and unique. Paiste made only 3 drum sets with shells created from cast 2002 cymbal alloy: one for Erik Paiste, one for Danny Carey, and this one for Carl Palmer of ELP and Asia fame. And, Carl's set is the only double bass kit made. These sets were made in 2002. Carl's set consists of 10x12 and 10x14 hanging toms; 14x16 and 16x16 floor toms; two 16x22 bass drums. These drums would have had a retail price of almost $38,000. Carl also had hard road cases specially built for this set and they are included. These hard road cases have wheels and special reinforcement and were built specifically for this set at a significant additional cost.
These drums are exceedingly rare an exquisitely beautiful. The sound is truly thunderous as you can imagine. Those of you who were fortunate enough to play the Paiste 2002 snares that were offered for a limited time know exactly what the sound quality is here. Imagine that sound on the scale of a full drum set.
Photos here show Carl using the set as well as Carl at the Paiste booth at Music Messe in 2002 when he received the set. As a note: The set now has clear heads on the front of both bass drums since Carl's logo heads are on another kit. This set was used by Carl on some Asia demos and in clinics with Danny Carey, and then also on two UK tours with the Carl Palmer Legacy circa 2007.
