That’s right: This incredible Craviotto bop kit will shortly be on its way to Abbey Road Studios in London. Going to Roberto Tini, Producer.
This is a very unique Craviotto Private Reserve solid shell drum set. The Craviotto team crafted this unique kit using 8 different species of wood, and the blend of wood species for each drum is intended to make the kit sonically balanced, as well as striking to look at. The 5.5x14 snare drum is ash/poplar. The 8x12 is curly maple/cherry. The 14x14 is birdseye maple/mahogany. The 14x18 bass drum is ambrosia maple/walnut. Edges are 45/45.
I recorded a video of this set before we added the wood hoops, which give the set a lighter, “airier” sound. https://youtu.be/AyyiaDyIXW4?si=5ACghyejyBrhNWhs
One of the Craviotto craftsmen hand picked the poplar board used on the snare drum. As you will see in the video, this one poplar board starts out with its natural light color and gradually darkens to a rich brown. At the seam you can see the contrast. This is all Mother Nature at work. No fancy stains. Speaking of Mother Nature, check out the Ambrosia Maple on the bass drum. Ambrosia Maple is a very cool wood that has striations of color in it, and some very tiny holes. These very small holes are caused by a dung beetle that lives in these trees, and the striations are actually caused by the excrement from these beetles. As a result, every piece of Ambrosia Maple is visually different. So cool. Sonically, the set sounds wonderful as you will hear in the video. And now, the set can lend it’s sound to recordings in what is, in my view, the world’s greatest recording studio!
