- Craviotto birdseye maple Private Reserve 4x14 snare drum.
Steve's Notes: I have always been a fan of 4x14 snares. Johnny was as well. Even though most of our Craviotto sales are 6.5x14, followed by 5.5x14, we are seeing a resurgence in popularity for the 4x14 size. This makes a lot of sense when you think about it: - We’ve had customers looking for this size as the perfect fit for smaller venues. The drum gives them all the performance they could want, and sonically fits in smaller clubs better than a deep 6.5. - Also, this size is a perfect “second snare” or “side snare” on your main kit. It can function as a “semi-piccolo”. - Lastly, they’re great in the recording studio as well. - And of course, with the incredible Craviotto solid shell, this drum can be tuned high up in piccolo range, but can also function down in the range of a 5.5. This particular drum is a Private Reserve due to the incredible birdseye maple shell. - Slingerland style “setomatic” tom holders back in stock!!
Check these out. We have a limited supply so get yours now. Here is a great item for all of our Slingerland fans as well as custom drum builders. This is a faithful reproduction of the Slingerland style tom holder that was so popular and innovative. Comes complete with the bass drum mounting plate, tom mounting plate, ball-in-socket tom arm and all mounting bolts, washers and nuts. Complete and ready to go! NOTE: We designed this reproduction arm with the tom arm channel slightly differently than the original. On the original, the bracket on your mounted tom screwed into the channel which was on top of the tom arm. On our design we have the channel on the underside of the tom arm to hide marks from tightening. So, for an existing kit just flip the bracket that is on your mounted tom so that it tightens on the underside of the arm. https://reverb.com/item/29027718-maxwell-slingerland-setomatic-style-complete-tom-holder
- Craviotto kit#1000. 600 year old Timeless Timber birch. The only set. On its way to Abbey Road Studio! Timeless craftsmanship…timeless studio
That’s correct. This is the only Timeless Timber solid shell kit made. We had enough wood left to do just one set. We held it for set #1000 to commemorate the milestone of the 1000th Craviotto drum set. 9x13, 16x16, 16x18, 14x22, 6.5x14 snare drum. Special triple inlay. This set has remained in the Craviotto museum at my Illinois store. I can’t think of a more worthy place for this set to be than the Abbey Road Studio. Roberto Tini, master producer, will be using this set on some upcoming projects at Abbey Road. Johnny Craviotto will be smiling down!!! And, check out the new pics of this set at Abbey Road! See the piano in the background? That’s the piano used on Lady Madonna! Such a historic studio.

- Three Craviotto snares heading to Abbey Road Studio
We’ve got a Craviotto drum set on the way to Roberto Tini, Producer at Abbey Road Studio, and we’re now sending down this array of additional Craviotto snares. Descriptions and pics below! 5x14 Ambrosia Maple. Private Reserve. 45 degree edges. Ambrosia Maple has classic maple tone, and the visual is really interesting. Each drum is visually different because of the striations in the wood. There is a beetle (not the Abbey Road Beatle!) that lives in this wood. They make tiny pinholes as they burrow, and the striations are actually caused by the excrement of the beetle. This drum is an excellent example of maple in a 5x14 size. 6.5x14 Walnut. 45 degree edges. I personally selected this walnut drum from our others, because the grain is especially beautiful. Walnut has more warmth than maple. Walnut sits in the middle, with maple being brighter, and mahogany being warmer. 6.5x14 20th Anniversary model. Curly Maple/Maple/Curly Maple with double row of real marine pearl abalone inlay, and grey/black stain. This was a very limited edition that we did for the 20th Anniversary of Craviotto. This drum will give you the depth of a 6.5 in maple. Johnny’s favorite wood was always maple. Even today, our maple drums are the most popular, and the 6.5x14 is typically the preferred size.
- Craviotto in Abbey Road Studios!
That’s right: This incredible Craviotto bop kit will shortly be on its way to Abbey Road Studios in London. Going to Roberto Tini, Producer. This is a very unique Craviotto Private Reserve solid shell drum set. The Craviotto team crafted this unique kit using 8 different species of wood, and the blend of wood species for each drum is intended to make the kit sonically balanced, as well as striking to look at. The 5.5x14 snare drum is ash/poplar. The 8x12 is curly maple/cherry. The 14x14 is birdseye maple/mahogany. The 14x18 bass drum is ambrosia maple/walnut. Edges are 45/45. I recorded a video of this set before we added the wood hoops, which give the set a lighter, “airier” sound. https://youtu.be/AyyiaDyIXW4?si=5ACghyejyBrhNWhs One of the Craviotto craftsmen hand picked the poplar board used on the snare drum. As you will see in the video, this one poplar board starts out with its natural light color and gradually darkens to a rich brown. At the seam you can see the contrast. This is all Mother Nature at work. No fancy stains. Speaking of Mother Nature, check out the Ambrosia Maple on the bass drum. Ambrosia Maple is a very cool wood that has striations of color in it, and some very tiny holes. These very small holes are caused by a dung beetle that lives in these trees, and the striations are actually caused by the excrement from these beetles. As a result, every piece of Ambrosia Maple is visually different. So cool. Sonically, the set sounds wonderful as you will hear in the video. And now, the set can lend it’s sound to recordings in what is, in my view, the world’s greatest recording studio!
- Ludwig Classic Maple, exclusive Rose Marine Pearl. Two very cool sets.
We’ve had this finish as an exclusive with Ludwig for many years. I thought I had sold all the sets, but recently found some buried deep in the stock pile. Right now we have two Downbeat sets. 8x12, 14x14, 14x20, and then one very cool set that I had ordered which is 8x12, 9x13, 14x14, 14x16, 14x20. I ordered the two floor tome with the same 14” depth, because I like the balanced decay when those are each the same depth. Here are the Reverb links for each of these, but contact Steve at vintagedrums@aol.com or by text at 630-865-6849 if you want one. https://reverb.com/item/94284242-ludwig-12-14-20-classic-maple-downbeat-drum-set-exclusive-rose-marine-pearl And also: https://reverb.com/item/94284039-ludwig-12-13-14-16-20-classic-maple-drum-set-exclusive-rose-marine-pearl

- Ludwig pre serial number Blue Note red sparkle. From my personal collection.
My friend Charlie over at Badges Drum Shop had this set and I grabbed it from him a couple of years back. This set is pre serial number so the rims are chrome over brass. The set is immaculate as the photos show. Even original heads. Some of these pics are mine and some were from Charlie. The Blue Note was Ludwig’s first double bass model and can be seen in the 1960 catalog. When first offered, the mounted toms were two drums of the same size, and the bass drums were 14x22 but you could order 14x20. This early 60s set is 2-8x12s, 16x16, 16x18, 2-14x20 bass drums, 5x14 Jazz Fest snare, and matching canister throne. The only thing missing here is the matching 6” and 8” bongos, which weren’t ordered with this particular kit. The set is drop dead gorgeous and even has the original heads. Check out my video for this set. https://youtu.be/hmr9MqdrUuU?si=VO7-lTc_fmNdPCy6 I love playing this set, but I don’t get to play it as much as I’d like to, so it’s time to let someone else enjoy it. This is the perfect set to serve as a cornerstone of a great Ludwig collection, or as your playing set. An amazing kit and as original as they get. $6500. - Johnny Craviotto’s first 4x14 snare drum, built in1995. From his personal collection. Net proceeds go to his family.
As stated above, the net proceeds from this drum will go to Johnny’s family. This is truly a historic drum. The first 4x14. Solid maple shell. Back when this drum was made, Johnny was using a variety of different strainers and rims, and the tube lugs were the standard available at the time. This drum was made in 1995, and Johnny didn’t formally start the Craviotto Drum Company until 2004, which was when he dialed in the new features such as the diamond foot tube lugs design, and he migrated over to the Nickelworks strainer, which was state of the art before Trick developed the GS007, which Johnny migrated to, and which we still use today. The box pictured is also included since this was how Johnny stored this drum. It is part of the history. $4500. Contact Steve by text at 630-865-6849 or by email at vintagedrums@aol.com
