Fork's Drum Closet Update

MAY 2nd 2019: Large collection at our Fork's Nashville Annex. Call Fork's at 615-383-8343. These sets will be listed soon but you can call for details now.

We just purchased a large collection. There are 27 drum sets here, most of which are New Old Stock from the 90s from major brands such as Pearl, Yamaha, Tama, Premier, GMS, Sonor, Allegra, Gretsch, Ayotte. These kits are pristine and most were never been played at all. A few were played very sparingly and appear to have never left the house. For the Japanese brands these are all the very desirable kits made in Japan. No China-made sets here. These sets are all large kits ranging from 5-8 pieces. We also acquired over 80 snares and over 100 cymbals as well. These will be part of a special sales event on May 11th. On that day we will have our "Tent Sale" at the shop, but we will also have a separate special showing of these sets, snares and cymbals at our new 20,000sf Annex at 2003 Nolensville Pike. You will be able to purchase these sets there, as well as the snares and cymbals. And, we will have drum bags and hardware to pick from as well. Call the shop now if you want to inquire about any of these sets in advance. These will go fast. Here is a pic to give you a sense of the sets:

APRIL 15th 2019:

Fork's Drum Closet is proud to announce the acquisition of an additional 20,000 sf of commercial space only 1 mile from our Chestnut St shop. And, we want to reach out to our Nashville drummers to solicit your ideas as to how we can design this facility to suit the needs of the drumming community. This new facility will be an annex per se, and not a retail store. But, we are entertaining ideas such as:

- Creating more teaching studios.

- Creating practice space.

- Creating a showroom for various manufacturers to display their Band and Orchestra products.

- Creating a "venue-like" area that provides ample room for clinics and periodic performances.
- Possible creation of equipment storage lockers.

The team at Fork's will be coordinating the ideas we receive from our Nashville drummer friends. We are very excited about being able to create a space that helps feed the needs of our Nashville drumming community so please share your ideas with us.
The Fork's Team.

10/10/18: It's been awhile since I posted but it has been hectic (all in a good way). The Grand Opening celebration 9/27-29 was fabulous. We had a huge turnout all three days. The great Chester Thompson performed with his group on Thursday. On Saturday Walfredo Reyes Jr (currently the drummer with Chicago) performed with members of Chicago and then had  Steve Ferrone (formerly with Tom Petty, AWB, and so many more) in for a clinic performance. Our thanks to all the many Nashville music community members who came out to visit, and a special thianks to our guest artists for making this a very memorable event.

Now that we're moved in and the Grand Opening is over, we are looking at the floor space and working to identify the vintage section so we can bring some great vintage kits, snares and cymbals down for the good folks in Nashville.

9/19/18: The move is DONE! We are now operating from our new 308 Chestnut St location! The next step is to get ready for our Grand Opening celebration which is 9/27-9/29. Stay tuned for more information!

9/13/18: The big move to our new 308 Chestnut St location occurs on Saturday 9/14 and we will be up and running on Monday 9/17. A big personal THANK YOU goes out to the great folks at Pearl and at KHS, both of which are providing a truck and resources, and also a big THANK YOU to all of the wonderful people who have volunteered to come help. The entire Fork's team has done an incredible job preparing for the move.

GRAND OPENING UPDATE:  Our Grand Opening celebration will be 9/27-9/29. Lots of guests from the industry including Gary and Melissa Forkum, food trucks on-site, thousands of dollars in giveaway items. And, special performances:

9/27: Chester Thompson (Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Genesis and much more) will perform with his trio at 4pm.

9/28: Stop in for special deals and to meet people from the industry as well as your fellow drummers.

9/29: Walfredo Reyes Jr. (Chicago, Santana, Traffic, Jackson Browne, and much more) will perform at 4pm, and then we have Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty, Duran Duran, Stevie Nicks, Eric Clapton and much more) who will perform at 7pm.

Come join us!

8/26/18: Our Grand Opening is set for Sept 27th. There will be in-store events on Sept 27th with special guests from within the industry as well as performers. We will have refreshments and food and there will be specials for the entire Grand Opening weekend of 9/27 - 9/29. This will mark the transition from the original Fork's location to our new stand-alone facility at 308 Chestnut St, which is only about 5 minutes from the current Fork's location. All are invited and we will have more news as we finalize the schedule for the event. Mark the date and make sure you come by!

8/15/18: Things are progressing nicely at the new location. I am including an exterior shot below. (We're saving the interior shots until we get the shop fully laid out and ready to roll). Still tracking towards a 9/1 date for operating in the new shop. 308 Chestnut St, only about a 5 min drive from the original shop. We also have our own parking lot with 14 spaces. By the way, check out this great article that the folks at DRUM! recently did regarding Fork's:

8/1/18: Today marks the beginning of our ownership of Fork's Drum Closet, and the start of our journey to carry on with the legacy that Gary Forkum created. Everyone in the percussion world owes a debt of gratitude to Gary for the incredible service and value he and his team have delivered for 36 years. We are honored to be able to carry on with his vision. The wonderful team that Gary assembled will continue taking care of all of our Nashville customers with the same great service they have come to expect. My deepest thanks to Gary, his wife Melissa and their son Matt.

7/21/18: Nashville update. More work is starting on the new space at 308 Chestnut St in Nashville. When this is done, the inventory available to you between Fork's and our two Maxwell shops will let you choose from over 2500 cymbals, 500 snare drums, 400 drum sets and an enormous array of percussion items, hardware, and accessories.

7/15/18: Nashville Update. We're progressing with the transition for Fork's Drum Closet. Terry Bissette and I are working with the great Fork's team and defining the layout for the new shop. The next several weeks will be busy ones as we start the process. We're still targeting being in the new shop by 9/1, and we're working out the plans so as to have no interruption in business as we go. We're all very excited. More to come...

6/11/18: Two new announcements that we are very pleased to be making:

- "Gary and Melissa Forkum, owners of Fork's Drum Closet in Nashville, are retiring and have sold their business to Steve and Debbie Maxwell and Elizabeth Cabraser.

Gary and Melissa have built a wonderful business that has served the Nashville community superbly for 36 years. Our intent is to continue serving this market in the exact same way that the Forkums have done for so long, and with their great team of people. And, the business will still be called Fork's Drum Closet. The Nashville music community is strong and the "personal service" and sense of "community" that Fork's embraces tracks exactly to the philosophy we have used in our Illinois and NYC stores, so we truly understand and value this approach. Carrying on the tradition that Fork's has established is an honor for us and we look forward to working with the entire team at Fork's, and the wonderful Nashville community, as we move forward."

- I am pleased to announce that Terry Bissette is joining us in the capacity of Executive Vice President, Retail Division.

Terry is very well known in the industry and has decades of experience in both the retail and manufacturing side of the business. Among his many roles, Terry managed independent drum shops and then went on to manage the drum division for Sam Ash, which grew significantly under his direction. He also had a very successful tenure with Tama and most recently with Conn Selmer's Ludwig division. Terry's experience and results-oriented approach are ideally suited for our growth plans. He will be an integral part of our Fork's Drum Closet Nashville operation and will be lending his expertise and knowledge to the growth plans for our NYC and Chicago-land locations. Terry will be located in Nashville and his start date will be July 1.
