9/9/25: I recently completed a video to show the sonic differences between Craviotto drum sets in three different wood species: maple, cherry and walnut. Each set is built with the same specs: 8x12, 14x14, 14x20 and each has a 6.5x14 snare. Edges are 45 degrees. Drum heads are coated Ambassador batters and clear resonant, with a Powerstroke on the bass drum batter. We worked to tune each set essentially at the same tension levels for a more accurate comparison. We also wanted to showcase the enormously wide tuning range, and show the versatility of these drums for different playing styles. To accomplish this, I do the demos with higher tuning and a more jazz-oriented playing style, and then Noah does these with a low tuning and a totally different playing style. We also encourage the viewers to visit the Craviotto website to see the many dealers who support Craviotto, and to visit those shops to experience Craviotto drum in person. The video is about 19 minute long, but worth the time to see the differences and versatility of solid steam bent shell production, built the way that only Johnny could. See the video HERE.
