April 1 Jazz Showcase

April 1st at Chicago's one-and-only Jazz Showcase. Eric Binder presents his trio including Gomeh Barak on Trumpet, Geoffrey Dean on Keyboards, and Eric Binder on Drums and Cymbals. (Include brief description of the trio's style etc). We've known Eric for a long time and some of his recordings were done here at our Cowbird Music recording studio. His talent is immense and this performance will be one you won't want to miss.

Also, as part of this event, for the drummers in attendance, Steve Maxwell and Eric will engage in a friendly "drum duo".

This will be a fun night so don't miss it.

Showtimes are 8pm and 10pm. See the Jazz Showcase calendar for this event HERE.

Eric Binder Bio:

In addition to being an accomplished drummer, author, and educator, Eric Binder is a versatile composer.” - Chicago Jazz Magazine

“...Binder’s loose-limbed pulse follows in the tradition of Elvin Jones.” -Jazzwise Magazine “

Hard bop fans now have another reason to rejoice.” -All About Jazz 4.5/5 Stars

Dr. Eric Binder is a drummer, composer, author, and educator from New York. He is recognized for his unique sound and approach that is deeply rooted in the history and tradition of the swinging music of the 1940s-1960s.

Binder has studied under the mentorship of Joel Spencer. Additionally, he learned from greats like George Coleman Sr., Kendrick Scott, Marcus Gilmore, Jeremy Pelt, Ron Bridgewater, Larry Gray, and John Swana.

His playing can be heard on over a dozen records, spanning from trios and duos, to quartets and more. Most notably, his time touring and recording with bassist, the late Malcolm Cecil, producer for Stevie Wonder. Binder has multiple records under his own name which received significant recognition (DownBeat Magazine Editor’s Picks, Wynton Marsalis’ Monthly Record Round Up, JazzWise Magazine Print Review). Binder has played and/or recorded in ensembles featuring musicians such as Walter Smith III, Joel Frahm, Harish Raghavan, Petros Klampanis, Christos Rafalides, Clint Holmes, and Michael Davis.

Binder has toured the Northeast and Midwest extensively. As a leader he has played Chris’ Jazz Café in Philadelphia, Con Alma in Pittsburgh, Fulton Street Collective in Chicago, Windish Entertainment in West Chester, and Madison Theatre in Albany. As a sideman, Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, Andy’s Jazz Club in Chicago, and more.

As an author, Binder has published eight books. He is a digital author with Hudson Music. His 2019 publication “10 Snare Drum Etudes for Improvisation” was voted #3 Best Method Book in the Modern Drummer Magazine 2020 Readers Poll.
