Maxwell Drums and Rockhurst Auctions

Maxwell Drums partners with Rockhurst Auctions.

I have long wanted to expand our business into the auction market, since it is a logical extension of what we have been doing more informally for 25 years. In this respect I am thrilled to announce that we are collaborating with Rockhurst Auctions, which is owned and operated by Jeff Marren, who has over 25 years experience. Check out his credentials below. The first auction including our items will be in September. We are gathering items for the auction as we speak, and we will do updates of the items that will be available. In the meantime, I'd encourage you to go to http://www.rockhurstauctions.com and register now, so that you will get updates about the upcoming auction and the listings. Here are just a few of the items we will have in the September auction.

- Ludwig 4x14 black beauty owned by WFL Sr, Gene Krupa, Sid Catlett, Papa Jo Jones (with video of Papa and Milt Buckner), Billy Cobham (used to record Inner Mounting Flame), and NYC jazz drummer and educator John Riley.

- One of the rarest Gretsch snare drums. 4x14 Max Roach model in Cadillac nitron green with 24k gold hardware. One of only a few originals.

- 18" Ufip china cymbal used by Charlie Watts for the 2006 Bigger Bang tour and for the Martin Scorsese "Shine A Light" documentary.

Below is a shot of the recent ad in GOLDMINE magazine.

MY EXPERIENCE

- Steve has been the curator of the world's finest private collection of rare and celebrity own drums.

- Authenticated and brokered the sale of instruments owned by such famous drummers as Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, Elvin Jones, Mel Lewis, Tony Williams, Sonny Greer, Don Lamond, Cozy Cole, Papa Jo Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Gene Krupa, Peter Erskine, Stan Levey, Dave Tough, Louie Bellson, Jake Hanna, Earl Palmer, Billy Gladstone and more.

- Sold more of the rarest drums and drum sets than anyone in the world. Items such as: the finest known Ludwig Top Hat and Cane drum set; the finest known and unique example of Leedy’s Autograph of the Stars set; four of the twelve known examples of ’50s era Gretsch cadillac nitron green “Birdland” drum sets; more Gretsch round badge era 12-14-18 drum sets than any dealer worldwide; twelve of the rare Billy Gladstone snares (of which only 25 exist); and one of the only two complete Billy Gladstone drum sets.

Our worldwide clientele consists of serious players, collectors, investors and anyone else who loves the finest examples of rare vintage drums. Our expertise runs deep and is rooted in the superb instruments crafted by US manufacturers from the 1920s through the 1970s.

JEFF MARREN AND ROCKHURST AUCTIONS:

A Word about Rockhurst Auctions

Rockhurst was started with the purpose of creating the absolute finest marketplace for fine collectibles. With more than 20 years in the auction business, and after presenting more than 120 auctions across several major auction firms in at least a half dozen states, owner Jeff Marren envisioned a company combining the very best of every innovation he brought to the industry.

That's Rockhurst Auctions.

We are defined by our unceasing labor and attention to detail at every juncture of the relationship with consignors and bidders. From research and authentication to customer service, presentation and fulfillment, each step of the Rockhurst process is infused with a singularity of purpose: our consignor's success is our success. We are only satisfied with this partnership when our consignor's expectations are met, when the value of their material is maximized.

Jeff's experience spans every aspect of the auction industry, from working with consignors to marketing and public relations, from developing bidding software to creating some of the earliest online auction environments. While responsible for the presentation and marketing of more than $250,000,000 of fine collectibles, he's seen it all. His expertise ranges far and wide across a number of disciplines: sports memorabilia, historicals, rock and roll, Hollywood, entertainment, movie posters, comic books, vintage toys, autographs.

After directing the creative, marketing and day to day operations of two major auctions firms over a 15-year period, Jeff was tasked with running Graceland Auctions for Elvis Presley Enterprises. As Consignment Director, he built the firm into the premier marketplace for exceptional Elvis Presley artifacts and memorabilia. Jeff grew the company from a startup in 2014 to a firm producing more than $7.5 Million in auction revenue for JUST ELVIS MATERIAL, while overseeing the sales of many of the industry's most significant Elvis Presley items, including the world-record price of $325,000 for a stage-worn jumpsuit.

Through it all, through every bid and every item offered, Jeff absorbed every step, every nuance, of the auction process. What worked, what didn't, what drove bidders crazy and what they loved. What consignors cared about, besides high prices! What was the best way to provide a trusted place where consignors could offer, and advanced collectors could acquire, the world's finest collectibles.
