This is one of the rarest drum sets in the world! In the 40s Leedy made a drum set referred to as "Autograph of the Stars". On that drum set, the shells were a sky blue color with white stars on top of which there were facsimile signatures of famous Leedy artists. These drum sets are far more rare than Ludwig's Top Hat and Cane finish and far fewer examples exist. However, the set we have is even more rare since this is a very early Leedy Autograph of the Stars drum set whereby the facsimile signatures are applied to a white marine pearl drum set. THIS IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE WE HAVE EVER SEEN OR HEARD OF. Additionally, THIS IS A FULL COMPLETE SET AS ORDERED FROM THE CATALOG AND IT CAME FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER'S FAMILY. This set was ordered in 1940 and it has remained complete and intact for 71 years! The set includes a 4x10 tom with tacked top and bottom heads, 7x11 tom with tunable top and tacked bottom, 9x13 tom with tunable top and tacked bottom, 14x28 single tension bass drum, and 7x14 snare drum. In addition, all the original hardware is present including the snare stand, foot pedal, high hat stand, rail for the bass drum along with both cymbal arms that attach to the rail, the tom holders for the 3 toms also attach to the rail and those holders are included. There are additional miscellaneous items including the original cymbals, many of which are Zildjian as well as multiple traps. And, we also have the original Leedy catalog that the owner used to select the kit with his pencil notes in the margin of the page for the kit. There is also a photo of the owner behind the kit when he was very young, as well as a reproduction of the Leedy Topics magazine issue that showed him with his set. This set is 100% authentic and has been authenticated by myself as well as Harry Cangany, noted vintage drum author and historian. In fact, Harry has an article about this set that will be published in an upcoming Modern Drummer magazine for all the world to see. The set is in amazing condition. All the original calf heads are still on the drums except for the snare batter head which was torn and I replaced it with a new calf head. There are some rim clips on the 11 and 13 that need to be replaced due to age and I will replace these. There is a 2 inch gap in the BD inlay on one hoop and we'll position this at the bottom of the shell. There is one small piece of wrap that lifted a bit on the bottom of the bass drum and this will be glued back down. That's it. 71 years old and fully complete and with no issues. This set is one of the most amazing and complete examples ever to be found, and the fact that this is an Autograph of the Stars set done on a white marine pearl background makes it truly unique. This set will be the centerpiece of a collection and truly a one-of-a-kind item. Call Steve for more details at 630-865-6849 and please note, we WILL NOT separate the snare drum from this set. I made a promise to the owner's widow that I would sell the set intact and we will not vary from that promise. This is TOO RARE and TOO SPECIAL to be split up.
