1. Joe Morello's Ludwig drum set and Paiste cymbals

This remarkable set has an incredible history. This drum set was Joe Morello's Ludwig set from the 70s and this was used with the Dave Brubeck Quartet at the Silver Anniversary concert in Michigan in 1976. Here is the 19 minute YouTube video and Joe is playing this set! HERE. In addition, there is a CD that can be purchased which has the entire concert.

As many of you know, I sold Joe's 60s era Brubeck kit many years ago and it still resides in the Charlie Watts collection in London. That set was, in my opinion, the most important Morello drum set. This 70s era set is, in my opinion, the second most important kit, especially with the photos, video and the available CD from the 25th Anniversary reunion concert of the original Brubeck quartet. Rock solid provenance and a truly historic piece from one of the most prolific and innovative jazz groups ever. And, Joe is respected by drummers worldwide as one to the true masters of the instrument. Can't get much better than that!  You can see my video of this historic set: HERE.

Back story and details: Sometime after the 25th Anniversary concert, Joe gave these drums and cymbals to a student of his. Joe was mostly blind, and this student helped Joe with creation of his method books. The drums and cymbals were a gift to express Joe's appreciation.

We are proud to be offering this set for sale. The set contains the following:

Joe's early 70s "Mach 4" Ludwig set. 9x13, 16x16, 14x22 finished in Joe's signature silver sparkle wrap. The "Mach" series was Ludwig's new design utilizing their Super Classic shells but with a new, "long lug" design. The Mach 4 was offered as a 13/16/22 and the Mach 5 was 12/13/16/22 and both were featured with a metal shell 5x14 Super Sensitive snare. Joe's set has his 5x14 Super Sensitive.  The set also includes one of Joe's silver sparkle canister thrones, as well as a nice selection of Joe's method books, some record albums, and several drum magazine articles featuring Joe.

The cymbals are Joe's Paiste Formula 602s and include the 14" high hats, 17" and 18" crash cymbals and his 20" ride. All the stands and pedals are also included. These stands and pedals are all Ludwig and primarily later (circa 94), and likely gathered after the set and cymbals were given to Joe's student.
