76 Drums:As many of you know, I am always looking for up and coming boutique builders whether it is for drums or cymbals. We love to support these individuals and perhaps in some small way, we can help them realize their dreams.
I recently discovered Marc Pagani's small operation in New Orleans, called 76 Seven Six Drums. Marc is doing some incredible work. His primary shell composition is stave, which is a form of solid shell construction, but very different from steam bent. With stave construction think of the way a barrel is made; there are various long staves that are curved and then glued together. For drums, stave shells sound excellent. And, an interesting benefit of a stave shell is this: For solid steam bent shells (such as what we do for Craviotto), certain exotic woods can be too dense to be rolled. However, those hard exotic woods can be cut into staves and used for stave shell drums. This provides a nice array of both visual and tonal opportunities by being able to use many wood species.
In addition to this, Marc has done some incredible work on the visual aspect of his drums. His uses of various hardware types (lugs, rims, strainers) works beautifully with the shells, and some of his wood hoops are the most stunning I have ever seen.
So, I am going to be offering Marc's drums through my IL shop and will also have some in our Nashville store, Fork's Drum Closet.
The first three drums will be here shortly. More details to come once these arrive, and we'll do video of course. Here's a pic of each. Steve
