LUDWIG

Streaked Opal Pearl: From 1930-35 Ludwig carried a color called streaked opal pearl. This wrap finish had a cream colored background with swirling, "squiggly", irregular black lines. The finish was not very popular because at the time, the opal was consider to be bad luck. As a result, the name of the finish tended to prevent buyers from ordering the drum. The end result of this unusual behaviour is that original drums in this finish are extremely rare today, and are very valuable (especially snare drums). Rob Cook's great book titled "The Ludwig Book" has excellent examples of this finish on page 152.
