Listen to the entire sound file and use headphones. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU'RE HEARING. The first part of the sound file is lower tuning with the stock Remo-made medium weight coated heads on the toms and snare and the stock Powerstroke on the BD. Then the second part of the file has higher tuning with a coated Ambassador on the bass drum in place of the Powerstroke. All other heads same as the first segment of the sound file. This is a stacked solid mahogany/rare BIRDSEYE maple Craviotto drum set with hybrid BB/45 edges. 8x12", 14x14", 14x18", 5.5x14 with mahogany/BIRDSEYE maple shells with BB bearing edge on the batter (mahogany) side for that fat sound, and the 45 degree edge on the resonant (maple) side for focus. This was an idea that Steve had for Johnny awhile ago. The idea of the BB/45 edge has been incredibly successful on snare drums. The BB top edge adds to fatness and takes out some of the overtones, while the 45 degree bottom edge allows excellent snare sensitivity and more overall resonance than if the bottom edge was also BB. The concept for toms and the bass drum was the same. We wanted to fatten up the batter side while not sacrificing the overall resonance of the drum. And, by using the warmth of mahogany for the fatter sound on the batter side with the BB edge, and then using brighter maple on the resonance side with the 45 edge, we get the best of both worlds. The BB/45 edge differs from the BB/BB edges in that the BB/45 retains a wider tuning range than the BB/BB edges. Consider that when tuning the drum, the top head is for pitch and the bottom head is for resonance. A BB edge is much more rounded than a 45 edge. As a result, there is more contact of wood-to-head with the rounded BB edge than there is with the sharper 45 edge. We love the BB/BB edge combination for toms and bass drums when you are using larger drums in medium-to-low tuning (think of that fat 50s-60s Ludwig/Slingerland style sound). That's the sweet spot for those edges on toms and bass drums. But, by combining the BB/45 it allows us to get added fatness on the batter side and retain the wide tuning range and added resonance that comes with a 45 bottom edge. As a result, this BB/45 combination is a perfect choice for smaller sizes and it works well in all tuning ranges. This creates another new sound for the smaller bop size drums and therefore gives us yet another option to the already incredible sonic options available with Craviotto. $7800. Note: The soundfile is recorded in two segments. 1. Low tuning 2. Medium/high tuning.
